The RN 7 Trip from Tananarive to Ifaty
Now to reach the south of the country from Antananarivo, 4WD is necessary. You will cross the Betsileo and Imerina highlands and discover Madagascar’s parks and nature reserves such as Ranomafana, the Anja Reserve and the Massif of Isalo. The tour ends on the Vezo fishermen’s coast in Ifaty.

- Day 1Antananarivo
Welcome and assistance at Ivato International Airport, transfer for your hotel in the city center. Chalet des Roses.
- Day 2Antananarivo – Antsirabe
Around 8 am, driver will pick you at “Chalet des Roses” for going to the ‘Haute Ville‘. Then, drive direction Antsirabe, some stops are amenaged like Behenjy or Ambatolampy. During the raod, you will discover a rich latérite landscape, local villages, churches and lively markets. Once in Antsirabe, you will go to Tritriva Lake ( 15 kilometers west Antsirabe ). This lake is a large crater quite mysterious; its shape evokes Madagascar map. This site has its own legend: 2 lovers by drowning hand in hand, ended there their day . Installation Hôtel Chambre du Voyageur. (Stage of 170 kms, Four to Five hours )
- Day 3Antsirabe – Ambositra – Ranomafana
Departure Early morning direction south . Rural walk closed Manandona village, located twenty two kilometers from Antsirabe along the National Road , through middle mountain, Village eleveation is 1450 meters, and has an ideal climate for any production ( Rice, Vegetables … ) Balad from village to village, full immersion Malagasy rural life; occasion for visiting traditional houses; opportunity for participating in some activities like rice transplanting, cow milking … ; you also see silkworms production. Picnic outdoors before joining back your vehicle. Southern Road Continuation. After Ankaratra mountains , cross rice terraces. Stop at the craft capital named ‘Ambositra’; a small street is dedicated to the wood artisans specialised in marquetry. The restaurant of Artisan Hotel provides national Malagasy dish, ”Romazava”, based pf meat and brèdes. The second part of the journey, heart of the Betsileo country Betsileo, you will reach the national park of Ranomafana . Installation at the hotel Chez Gaspard. (260 kms stage, 8 to 9 hours).
- Day 4Ranomafana – Fianarantsoa
Ranomafana, a forest-based park, covers more than fourty thousands . In 2007 , yhis protected area has bee declared “World Natural Heritage”. for its unqiue endemic biodiversity. You will be able to discover different lemurs species. Park regroups also endemic plant species. It is crossed by many small rivers ; Around 7 am, tour with local guide duration two to four hours . Afternoon continuation quietly to Sahambavy ( before Fianarantsoa entrance ) , weel known for tea plantations,. - Day 5Fianarantsoa – Ranohira
Day 6
IsaloIsalo National Park, covers 81,540 hectares.; it is criss-crossed by rivers and tributaries, This continental sandstone plateau dates from Jurassic. Highly eroded, only witnesses fragmented by canyons and sandy valleys are staying . An exceptional show! In the park several walking tours are possible. Example : 2 half day walks, or a big one combining the two. We generally provide 2 main sites :
– Natural Pool ( Piscine Naturelle ): quite easy level, duration half a day, quite clear water where you could swim; From there , you will follow the park guide for a great panoramic view of Isalo.
– Nymphs Waterfall ( Cascade des Nymphes ): easy walk to reach the waterfall, it could be extended to black and blue pools, via rugged paths, in the heart of vegetation.- Day 7Ranohira – Tuléar – Ifaty
8 am departure for Tulear, You will cross villages gems like Ilakaka, the “Sapphire’s city”, observation of the first Baobabs and passing by Mahafaly country’s, ( well known for their tombs , decorated with sculptures named ”Aloalo”. Stop at Antsokay Arboretum before Tulear entrance, grouping endemic medicinal plants and typical flora of Madagascar. You could have lunch. It will remains around 1 hour to reach Ifaty seaside resort. (Step 250 kilometers– 5h30 ). 2 Nights at Hôtel de la Plage.
- Day 8Ifaty
After 1,000 kms of journey, relax at the hotel that will offer you various activities: visit a forest of baobabs ( Reniala ), trip by dugout Vezo along the coral reef, diving, fishing, snorkeling, quad biking, the village of turtles … All these activities can be arranged by your hotel. - Day 9Ifaty – Tuléar – Tana
Transfer Tuléar Airport managed by Hotel de la Plage . Flight back to Antananarivo. End of our services.
